gloINTENSIVE 2013

gloATL welcomes contemporary artists focused in dance and performance to the 2013 gloINTENSIVE.  The 3 week session is shaped to increase knowledge, inspiration and creativity of contemporary movement within the special atmosphere and creative environment of glo.  This unique performance program takes place in joint campuses of the renowned Woodruff Arts Center in midtown Atlanta, and in Atlanta’s Westside Arts District on the historical Goat Farm Arts Center campus.

INTENSIVE participants will perform side by side glo Dancers for the acclaimed performance series “Liquid Culture: a series of utopia stations.”  The program has ballet class, contemporary dance class and  improvisation sessions. The INTENSIVE includes daily guest choreographers and teachers, and discussion sessions with artists and practices that support contemporary dance as a collaborative medium.

Teaching philosophy:
With highly physical contemporary movement as the cornerstone, glo will guide the next generation of artists on a journey that values independent thinking and problem solving through fresh exploration and a tenacious, communal work ethic found in today’s contemporary performance.  We aim for clear speaking, among all movement languages.

Daily process:                                    The first half of the day begins with technique class followed by improvisation and experimentation.   At least twice a week this part of the day is followed by public intervention, or what gloATL calls “mapping.” Following lunch, the second half of the day is devoted to  choreographic process by visiting choreographers and glo founding artist Lauri Stallings.

The session:

3-weeks (July 1-July 20) comprehensive curriculum devoted to investigating tools and language current in today’s contemporary performance field.  Each day will consist of a  laboratory for applying the tools and philosophies of glo into the performance realm.  Side by side glo dancers, four new works in 14 days are created and performed in four public spaces of Atlanta. Collaborators in music, opera, dance-theater and visual art are a part of the unique creative process.
